Taken Under Control

Is there a way to timely monitor changes in well parameters and to adjust the operation of ESP in accordance with them? Novomet’s downhole sensor systems are equipped with high-accurate sensors, which reliably transmit the data from the subsurface to the surface for further operation analysis and performance improvement.

— If the current parameters such as temperature, pressure, vibration, etc., are available, you can significantly increase the volume of produced fluid by relevant formation pressure maintenance and appropriate operating mode adjustment, - explains Head of Design Office for Downhole Sensor Systems of Novomet company, Dmitrii Shevtsov. - The productivity of well will reach its maximum. As well, downhole sensor system makes it possible to operate the equipment safely and thereby to extend its service life. The more the number of available parameters within the DSS, the greater the opportunities to enhance efficiency of ESP operation and, as a result, to protect the equipment.

Novomet offers downhole sensor systems with different configurations: standard, extended, maximized. Standard configuration allows to measure insulation resistance, pressure and temperature at pump intake, temperature and vibration of motor winding, and additional parameters such as pressure and temperature at pump discharge as well as pump discharge flowrate. Downhole sensor systems are compatible with both asynchronous motors and permanent magnet motors, no matter which one is installed.

Novomet manufactures conventional DSSs for operation at temperatures of up to 150 °С. Moreover, Novomet’s engineers have developed a product line of DDSs for high-temperature wells, which operate at temperatures of up to 175 °С. As well this product line can be operated in geothermal wells. To be noted, the system with working temperature of up to 200°С is now under development as well as one more product line for operation under temperatures of 230-260°С.

DDS consists of one or several downhole units, which are commonly mounted on different places of ESP system and each unit provides measurements of an individual set of parameters. All the data is transmitted to the main unit, which sends the information to the surface panel by means of power cable. For its part, surface panel may be both able to show the data on its screen or connected to VSD.

Taken all together, downhole sensor system by Novomet is a reliable source of data under changing well conditions, which provides adjustment for control algorithms of ESP operation and protection as well as for intelligent oil production systems.
